Investment

Domain investing is the process of purchasing and selling domains for the purpose of monetization. There are many different strategies for domain investing, and it is important to research the various avenues investors take in order to maximize the return on their investments. This can include reading articles and participating in forums dedicated to domain investing. It also means researching and monitoring auctions of domains you are interested in buying.

The finance industry encompasses a wide variety of businesses and activities, including banking, investments, insurance, and payment processing. QA testers with finance domain knowledge understand the technology expectations and requirements of these businesses. Having this knowledge is essential for testing financial software programs and applications. In addition, it helps developers better appreciate business tasks and avoid mistakes that could be costly. For example, a developer with finance domain knowledge would understand that a model to predict credit defaults should not be based solely on historical data.

Insurance

Microsoft Domain Service: Managed Identity and Access Management Solution

Posted by: Tsr60qXL Posted on: December 1, 2023 Comments: 0

What is Microsoft Domain Service?

Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) is Microsoft’s centralized identity management platform. It organizes objects into organizational units (OUs) based on business needs and manages them with group policies.

A managed domain allows you to run legacy applications without having to deploy and manage a traditional on-premises AD DS environment in the cloud. It also provides geographical disaster recovery for these applications by peered with a low-latency virtual network in multiple Azure regions.

Features

Domain Services is Microsoft’s identity and access management solution. It stores centralized directory information, verifies user login credentials, and assigns permissions. It also provides built-in redundancy and replication. This is important because every device and service in a domain needs to be managed by the same authority.

It consists of multiple directory services including Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), LDAP, and Rights Management. It supports centralized authentication and authorization mechanisms and has a range of other features such as domain join, Group Policy, lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) support, and Kerberos authentication.

It can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud. Its hosted in Azure and runs on virtual domain controllers that are created, patched, and maintained by Microsoft. It uses one-way synchronization with Microsoft Entra ID to enable applications, services and VMs on Azure to use the same set of identity attributes. It also enables legacy applications to be lifted and shifted into a Managed Domain without the need to deploy, manage, and patch on-premises AD DS servers.

Pricing

Microsoft Domain Services is a managed version of Active Directory. It comes with two domain controllers that you can deploy on any virtual network. This is a great way to cut costs by moving redundant AD services to the cloud. The service is also well priced compared to the cost of running servers on premise.

Each DC is given a pool of relative IDs that it can use to uniquely identify objects. These RID pools are non-overlapping, so any DC can create objects that don’t conflict with each other in a given domain.

With a managed domain, you can use Windows-integrated authentication (NTLM and Kerberos), LDAP, group policy, and other domain services. It also enables you to easily migrate on-premises apps to the cloud and streamline management of legacy and modern identity-aware applications with a single solution. This reduces the operational and maintenance costs of identity infrastructure in your organization, such as co-locating backup domain controllers around the world.

Installation

The Azure AD DS service takes Active Directory and turns it into a managed domain. This means Microsoft takes care of the patching, maintenance and fault tolerance for you. It also allows you to lift and shift your legacy applications into the cloud.

On the Prerequisites Check page, select the Azure subscription and resource group in which you want to create the managed domain, and then click Next. On the Domain Controller Options page, select the domain and forest functional levels, add a domain name system (DNS) server or a global catalog server, and specify the password for the Domain Security Replicator Master (DSRM).

If you select an option to install a read-only domain controller (RODC), on the Select Destination Server page, select a site that contains other servers that can be configured as DNS root hints. If you do not, the RODC will not be able to perform DNS resolution. On the Choose Log File Location page, select a data volume that is formatted with Resilient File System (ReFS). Also on this page, specify a location for the read-only domain database, and then click Next.

Administration

Microsoft does the deployment and management of AAD DS for you in a managed domain associated with your Azure Entra tenant. This means that you don’t have to deploy, patch, and manage your own domain controllers.

However, there are some limitations when deploying this service in your virtual network. For example, Microsoft limits the number of sites that a managed domain can have to one per VNet. This limit is a design choice to keep AAD DS as lightweight as possible.

Also, if you use a custom group policy object (GPO) to apply settings to the managed domain, the GPO must be linked to an organizational unit (OU) on your Azure Entra tenant that’s part of the managed domain. You can’t link the GPO to a standard OU.

The default configuration of the managed domain includes a security group named AADDSDomainAdmin which contains a single member named dcaasadmin. This group is nested into a set of highly privileged built-in Active Directory administrator groups, including Administrators, Domain Admins, and Schema Admins.
